The Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) is jointly offered by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). PGDBA endeavors to shape the emerging role of business analytics by giving a cutting edge educational and practical experience to graduate applicants with an ambition of building a career in the field of business analytics and management. In this article, we will briefly discuss the PGDBA exam pattern.

PGDBA Exam will be conducted in offline mode across various centers in India. Candidates will be given 180 minutes (3 hours) to answer the 50 questions. There will be no sectional time limit, which means candidates can attempt any section at any point of time during the examination. Fifty questions are divided into four broad sections; Fifteen questions in Verbal Ability Section, five Question each in Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning Section and twenty-five questions in quantitative aptitude/maths section. QA/Maths comprises of 50% of the PGDBA exam. Here is a brief table tabulating the PGDBA exam pattern:

## Section Wise PGDBA Exam Pattern

**Verbal Ability**: This section comprises of 15 questions out of the 50 questions in PGDBA exam. This section tests the essential English reading and comprehension skills of the candidates. PGDBA 2019 exam comprised of 10 RC passage questions, three para jumble questions, and two-word usage questions. Topics covered in this section include

- Reading & Comprehension
- Grammar/correction of sentences
- Para Jumble
- Word Usage

**Data Interpretation**: This section comprises of 5 questions out of the 50 questions asked in the PGDBA exam. This section tests the necessary data interpretation and calculation skills from the given set of data. Generally, this section is easy to moderate. Various topics covered in this section include pie charts, graphs, trends, etc.

**Logical Reasoning**: This section comprises of 5 questions out of the 50 questions asked in the PGDBA exam. This section tests the necessary logical thinking and reasoning of the candidate. Generally, this section is easy to moderate. Various topics covered in this section include Logical connectives, Statements, and Conclusions, Matching, and sequences.

**Quantitative aptitude/ Advanced maths**: This section holds 50% of the total marks in the PGDBA exam and hence is an important section to clear the PGDBA exam. With 25 questions out of 50 questions, questions are asked from various topics such as,

- Sets
- Combinatorics
- Algebra (solutions of quadratic equations, inequalities, simultaneous linear equations, binomial theorem, series, AP, GP, HP, matrices)
- Euclidean geometry
- Coordinate geometry (lines, circles, conic sections)
- Trigonometry (triangles, trigonometric identities, heights, and distances)
- Calculus (functions, limits, continuity, derivative, maxima & minima, methods of integration, evaluation of areas using integration)

## PGDBA Marking Scheme

It is crucial to know the PGDBA exam pattern and marking scheme before attempting the PGDBA exam so that you can target the total number of questions to be attempted based on the past cutoff trends. Total marks of PGDBA exam will be 150. Each question will carry 3 marks. There will be negative marking of -1 for each wrong or incorrect answer. There will be no deduction of marks in case a candidate chooses not to attempt a given question.
